Job Title: Grounds Maintenance Operative

Job Purpose

To support the delivery of high-quality grounds maintenance services across parks, green spaces, public areas, and council-owned land within the Wyre Forest District. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining outdoor environments using a variety of specialist grounds maintenance equipment while ensuring a safe, clean, and attractive environment for residents and visitors.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain grounds maintenance machinery, including:
    • Strimmers
    • Pedestrian mowers
    • Ride-on mowers (preferred)
  • Carry out grass cutting and vegetation management activities.
  • Perform general grounds maintenance duties, including:
    • Hedge trimming
    • Weeding
    • Pruning
    • Litter picking
    • Leaf clearance
  • Conduct daily equipment checks and report any defects or maintenance requirements.
  • Work safely and in accordance with Health & Safety regulations.
  • Drive council vehicles between sites as required.
  • Assist with seasonal grounds maintenance tasks and environmental improvement projects.
  • Ensure all work is completed to the required standards and within designated timescales.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.


Essential Experience

  • Previous experience in a Grounds Maintenance, Landscaping, Gardening, or similar outdoor maintenance role.
  • Practical experience using:
    • Strimmers
    • Pedestrian mowers
  • Experience working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to carry out physically demanding duties.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience operating ride-on mowers.
  • Experience working within local authority, commercial, or public sector grounds maintenance environments.
  • Knowledge of horticultural practices and grounds care techniques.


Qualifications & Requirements

Essential

  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible approach to work.

Desirable

  • Relevant horticultural or landscaping qualification.
  • PA1/PA6 spraying certificates.
  • Experience towing trailers or operating other grounds maintenance machinery.


Additional Information

· Pay Rate: £16.92 per hour UMB

· Location: Wyre Forest District Council, Kidderminster

· Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am â 3:00pm (with occasional weekend cover)

· Driving Licence: Full UK Driving Licence Essential
