Summary
- The Service Manager â Environmental Operations is a pivotal role responsible for leading and delivering high-quality frontline environmental services across the borough. This position ensures operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and continuous service improvement while managing a large workforce. The role is crucial in maintaining high standards for residents, businesses, and stakeholders, providing strategic and operational leadership in a 24-hour service environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage a large operational workforce (up to 150 staff) through Supervisors and Assistant Managers.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, service standards, and contractual requirements.
- Monitor and drive service performance against KPIs, implementing improvements where necessary.
- Identify and resolve service issues promptly, ensuring sustainable solutions.
- Manage budgets, resources, and operational planning effectively.
- Deliver continuous service improvement and operational efficiencies.

- Proven experience managing large teams within environmental services, waste management, or a related operational environment.
- Strong track record of delivering high-quality, customer-focused public services.
- Experience managing budgets and driving cost-effective operational performance.

- Essential Qualifications Required
- Full UK driving licence.
- Relevant management-level experience in environmental or waste services.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.

Additional Information
- Location: Hackney, London.
- Rate: £31.19 â £42.03 per hour (Umbrella).
- Contract: Full-time | Shift-based (including evenings, nights & weekends).
- We work on a bi-weekly schedule.
