- Summary
- The Senior Traffic Engineer is a pivotal role within a local authority, tasked with the effective delivery of traffic engineering projects and transport-related initiatives.
This position ensures compliance with statutory requirements, contractual obligations, quality standards, and budgetary controls.
The role involves planning, designing, implementing, and supervising traffic and highway schemes, while providing professional engineering advice and managing project delivery from inception through completion.
Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver traffic engineering projects in line with agreed objectives, budgets, and timescales.
- Undertake traffic and transport studies, surveys, and investigations, analyzing findings to support scheme development.
- Design and develop traffic management, highway improvement, and transport schemes.
- Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical documentation.
- Ensure all projects comply with relevant legislation, technical standards, and contractual requirements.
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor performance and recommend tender acceptances where appropriate.
Essential Experience Required
- Experience delivering traffic engineering, highway engineering, or transportation projects.
- Experience in traffic management design, scheme development, and project supervision.
- Experience preparing technical reports, specifications, and contract documents.
- Experience managing project budgets, expenditure monitoring, and cost estimation.
Essential Qualifications Required
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Highway Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Membership (or working towards membership) of a relevant professional body such as ICE, CIHT, or IHE.
- Additional Information
- Working hours: 35 hours per week.
- Rate negotiable: £42 - £45 umbrella.
- We work on a bi-weekly schedule.
