Job Purpose

To support the delivery of community-based services by providing safe, reliable, and person-centred transport for residents through the Transport from Home Service and by delivering meals through the Meals at Home Service. The role is essential in ensuring residents receive timely support, maintain independence, and access services that enhance their wellbeing. The post holder will act as a key point of contact for service users, promoting dignity, respect, and excellent customer service at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport Services
    • Safely transport residents to and from designated locations using accessible vehicles.
    • Assist passengers with boarding, disembarking, and securing mobility equipment where required.
    • Conduct vehicle safety checks before and after use and report any defects promptly.
    • Ensure all journeys are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with service schedules.
    • Maintain accurate transport records and comply with relevant transport regulations.
  • Meals at Home Service
    • Deliver meals to residents in a timely and professional manner.
    • Ensure food is transported and delivered in accordance with health and safety and food hygiene standards.
    • Report any concerns regarding service users' wellbeing, welfare, or safeguarding issues to the appropriate manager.
  • Customer Support
    • Build positive relationships with residents, families, carers, and colleagues.
    • Provide a person-centred service that respects individual needs, preferences, and dignity.
    • Offer support and reassurance to vulnerable residents while maintaining professional boundaries.
    • Act as an ambassador for the service, providing excellent customer care at all times.
  • General Duties
    • Work independently and as part of a team to ensure the effective delivery of services.
    • Manage daily schedules and workloads efficiently to meet service demands.
    • Attend mandatory training and development activities.
    • Comply with organisational policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, data protection, and equality and diversity requirements.
    • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working within community support, social care, customer service, or similar public-facing services.
  • Experience driving vehicles in a professional capacity.
  • Experience providing support to vulnerable adults, older people, or individuals with additional needs.
  • Demonstrable ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Desirable

  • Experience operating accessible or wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
  • Experience within transport, domiciliary care, community services, or meal delivery services.
  • Experience completing basic records and administrative documentation.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential

  • Full UK Driving Licence with entitlement to drive vehicles up to D1 category (or willingness/ability to meet licensing requirements where applicable).
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and respond to changing service needs.
  • Understanding of customer care and person-centred service delivery.

  • First Aid qualification.
  • Safeguarding Adults training.
