The Dustcart Driver (Class 2) is a crucial role responsible for operating a refuse collection vehicle and ensuring the efficient delivery of waste collection services in the local area. The successful candidate will be part of a small, dedicated team, working alongside loaders to complete waste collection rounds safely and effectively. This role not only involves driving duties but also requires assisting with loading activities to meet daily collection schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Driving Duties: Operate a dustcart/refuse collection vehicle safely and efficiently. Conduct daily vehicle checks and report any defects. Ensure compliance with road traffic laws and operational procedures. Complete collection rounds within agreed timescales. Plan and manage daily collection routes effectively.
  • Waste Collection Operations: Assist with loading refuse and waste materials as needed. Collaborate with loaders to complete daily schedules. Ensure collections are conducted efficiently and professionally. Support the team in achieving service targets and operational goals. Work flexibly, occasionally beyond the contracted hours, to complete rounds.
  • Health & Safety: Adhere to Health & Safety policies and procedures. Perform duties in line with safe manual handling practices. Report accidents, incidents, and hazards promptly. Ensure the safety of colleagues, residents, and the public.
  • Team Working: Work effectively within a small team environment. Build positive relationships with drivers, loaders, and supervisors. Communicate effectively with colleagues and service users. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and contribute positively to the team.
  • Customer Service: Represent the organisation professionally. Provide courteous interactions with residents and the public. Respond appropriately to service-related enquiries.

Requirements

  • Essential: Valid Class 2 (Category C) Driving Licence. Driver CPC Qualification Card. Digital Tachograph Card. Previous experience in dustcart/refuse collection driving. Ability to assist with loading duties. Strong understanding of Health & Safety and safe working practices. Good teamwork and communication skills.
  • Desirable: Previous Local Authority experience. Experience in waste management or environmental services. Experience as a Driver Assistant. Manual Handling experience.

Part-time position working 20 hours per week. Physically demanding role involving driving and loading duties. Flexibility to work beyond contracted hours to ensure completion of rounds. Interviews will be held at Unit 4, Sandgate Street Industrial Estate, 57 Sandgate Street, London, SE15 1LE. Candidates must bring their Driving Licence, CPC Card, and Digital Tachograph Card for inspection.
