Contract 4 Month Contract With A Local Authority
The Data Migration Lead will be responsible for leading and coordinating the end-to-end migration of data from legacy housing systems into new target platforms for West Northamptonshire Council. The role will ensure data is accurately extracted, cleansed, transformed, validated, and migrated in alignment with programme delivery timelines and supplier implementation plans. Working closely with business stakeholders, SMEs, suppliers, and project workstreams, the postholder will provide expert leadership across data analysis, migration planning, testing, and data quality assurance activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the analysis, mapping, and migration of data from legacy systems, including Capita Open Housing, into target systems.
- Work with business SMEs, users, and project stakeholders to identify and define data migration requirements.
- Develop and maintain the data migration strategy, plan, and schedule aligned with supplier implementation timelines.
- Conduct audits of existing data sources and define migration business rules in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Identify data quality issues and recommend cleansing and improvement activities to support successful migration outcomes.
- Coordinate and support ETL activities and associated testing processes with supplier data migration consultants.
- Oversee and support unit testing, system testing, and user acceptance testing for migrated datasets.
- Validate migrated data to ensure completeness, accuracy, and avoidance of duplication across target systems.
- Collaborate closely with project workstreams, suppliers, and business teams to resolve migration-related issues.
- Ensure all migration activities comply with data protection and information governance requirements.
- Produce and maintain migration documentation, including mapping specifications, validation outcomes, and migration logs.
- Provide expert guidance on data extraction, SQL scripting, data modelling, and data transformation techniques.
- Support migration activities across multiple data sources and target systems while maintaining delivery timelines.
Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Data Migration Lead on large-scale transformation or system implementation projects.
- Strong knowledge and experience of migrating data from legacy housing systems, specifically Capita Open Housing.
- Demonstrable experience designing and executing ETL and data migration frameworks independently.
- Strong understanding of data migration methodologies, governance, and best practices.
- Experience undertaking data audits, cleansing, validation, and reconciliation activities.
- Advanced SQL and scripting capabilities with experience in data extraction and transformation.
- Experience working with multiple data sources and integrating data into one or more target systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Experience coordinating migration testing activities, including UAT and validation exercises.
- Ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including SMEs, suppliers, and business users.
- Good understanding of data protection principles and handling sensitive personal data.
- Flexible, methodical, and solution-focused approach to delivery within complex project environments.
