Job Description

3-6 months contract with a local authority

Summary

  • This role involves leading the monitoring and oversight of Elective Home Education (EHE) within a local authority. The purpose is to ensure that children and young people of statutory school age receive a suitable education in accordance with legislative requirements. The position is crucial for maintaining robust records, developing effective systems and processes, providing specialist advice and guidance, and ensuring appropriate actions are taken regarding safeguarding concerns, school placements, and support services.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor and manage cases involving children and young people who are electively home educated.
  • Maintain oversight of all EHE cases, ensuring accurate recording, tracking, and reporting.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and support to parents, carers, schools, educational settings, and partner agencies regarding Elective Home Education.
  • Assess and process EHE notifications and referrals in line with relevant legislation, guidance, and local authority procedures.
  • Ensure the child's voice and best interests are central to all decision-making processes.
  • Work collaboratively with schools, admissions teams, SEND services, health professionals, and other agencies to secure suitable educational provision where required.
  • Support the review and monitoring of children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) who are electively home educated.
Requirements:
  • Significant experience working within an educational environment.
  • Experience working with children, young people, and families.
  • Experience managing complex casework and maintaining accurate records.
  • Experience providing specialist advice and guidance to colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Good standard of education, including English and Mathematics.
  • Relevant professional qualification in Education, Child Development, SEND, Social Care, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Additional Information
  • Contract Duration: 3-6 months
  • Working Hours: 37 hours per week
  • Hybrid Work: Combination of work from home and home visits (e.g., home visits: 2.5 days a week, WFH 2.5 days a week)
