Job Description
- 3 Month Contract With A Local Authority
- Job Purpose
To provide high-quality legal advice and representation on a broad range of commercial property and land-related matters on behalf of the Council, its partners, and clients.
The postholder will manage a varied property law caseload, support client departments, and ensure legal services are delivered efficiently and in accordance with professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a varied caseload of commercial property, land, development, landlord and tenant, and related legal matters.
- Provide legal advice to Council departments on property, land, and highways issues.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documentation.
- Attend Council, Cabinet, and Committee meetings to provide legal advice where required.
- Conduct legal research and provide clear, practical advice on property law matters.
- Instruct Counsel where appropriate and manage external legal support.
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with Lexcel quality standards.
- Record time worked for client charging purposes.
- Support the Team Leader β Property and Contracts with the delivery of legal services.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the role as required.
Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with a current practising certificate.
- Extensive knowledge and practical experience of commercial property law.
- Experience drafting and negotiating complex legal documentation.
- Strong legal research and advisory skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal matters clearly.
- Strong negotiation, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work to deadlines, and maintain high levels of accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Local authority legal experience.
- Knowledge of local government legislation and developments.
- Understanding of Lexcel standards.
- Experience using Iken or other legal case management systems.
- Knowledge of highways and planning law.
