  • We are seeking an experienced

Payroll Officer to join our dynamic Payroll and Finance team, supporting the NCHA Group.

This role is pivotal in delivering precise and efficient payroll services, ensuring all payroll and pension transactions are processed accurately, in compliance with current legislation, organizational policies, and within set deadlines.

The ideal candidate will possess robust payroll experience, exceptional attention to detail, and the capability to handle complex payroll queries while providing outstanding customer service.

Experience with ITrent is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Payroll Administration
  • Administer and maintain payroll and pension systems and records.
  • Process payroll transactions accurately and within agreed timescales.
  • Administer colleague expenses, statutory payments, absence-related payroll adjustments, and pension deductions and contributions.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and organizational policies.
  • Payroll & Pension Reconciliations
  • Operate and maintain payroll control accounts.
  • Reconcile payroll, net pay, pension, and other related accounts.
  • Investigate discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records.
  • Payroll Queries & Customer Support
  • Respond to payroll and pension inquiries from colleagues and managers.
  • Resolve complex payroll issues efficiently and professionally.
  • Provide advice and guidance on payroll procedures and processes.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
  • Reporting & Analysis
  • Extract and analyse payroll and financial data.
  • Produce payroll reports and management information.
  • Support statutory reporting requirements.
  • Assist with the preparation of payroll returns and submissions.
  • Month-End & Year-End Processes
  • Assist with payroll period-end and year-end procedures.
  • Produce relevant payroll documentation within required deadlines.
  • Support the preparation of statutory payroll returns.
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC and pension requirements.
  • Audit & Compliance
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Assist with the production of statutory accounts and payroll-related reports.
  • Ensure payroll records comply with legislative and organizational requirements.
  • Maintain robust audit trails and documentation.
  • Systems & Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to payroll system improvements and development initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of payroll procedures and manuals.
  • Support business transformation and process improvement activities.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy.
  • Team Support
  • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide support across the wider Finance and Payroll team when required.
  • Assist with cross-cover arrangements during periods of absence or increased workload.
  • Contribute positively to team objectives and service delivery.

  • Previous payroll administration experience.
  • Experience processing payroll from start to finish.
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
  • Experience administering pensions and payroll deductions.
  • Experience reconciling payroll data and control accounts.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience using payroll and financial systems.
  • Ability to manage confidential information appropriately.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Desirable

  • Experience using ITrent payroll software.
  • Previous Housing Association or Public Sector payroll experience.
  • Experience supporting payroll audits.
  • Knowledge of pension schemes and pension administration.
  • Experience producing payroll reports and statistical information.

Qualifications
