1-Month Contract Role with a Local Authority
Summary
This role is designed to provide expert employee relations (ER) support across the organization, ensuring the delivery of consistent, professional, and legally compliant advice to managers and colleagues. The focus is on managing complex ER casework, supporting organizational performance, and embedding best practices aligned with company values and policies.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist advice and guidance to managers and colleagues on all aspects of employee relations, including complex casework such as disciplinary, grievance, absence, and capability issues.
- Manage a high-volume caseload within a shared services framework, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Support and coach line managers to build confidence and capability in handling ER matters.
- Collaborate closely with the Lead ER Manager and Strategic People Business Partners to ensure a consistent and collaborative People service.
- Deliver training and support to develop line manager capability, working in partnership with Talent Acquisition and Learning & Culture teams.
- Oversee sickness absence management processes alongside the ER Advisor.
Requirements
Essential Experience
- Extensive experience managing complex employee relations casework, including sickness absence, conduct, capability, and grievance matters.
- Proven experience handling a high-volume caseload and prioritizing workloads effectively.
- Experience coaching and advising managers on applying policies and procedures.
- Experience preparing documentation for Employment Tribunal cases.
Essential Qualifications
- CIPD Level 5 qualification (or equivalent experience).
- Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build trust.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends.
Additional Information
- Working hours: 35 hours per week.
- Location: Fleet House, 59-61 Clerkenwell Road, London, EC1M 5LA, United Kingdom.
- Work pattern: 3 days remote; 2 days in the office. 09:00 - 17:00, Mon-Fri.
- Schedule: Bi-weekly.
