This is a 6-month contract role with a local authority, aimed at leading and delivering the Council’s procurement strategy. The position is crucial for ensuring high-quality, value-driven commissioning of goods, services, and works that align with organisational and borough priorities. The role provides strategic leadership for procurement activities, overseeing significant organisational spend while ensuring strong governance, compliance, and innovation. The postholder will act as a senior commercial advisor to leadership, driving value for money and embedding a business partnering approach across the Council.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and delivery of the Council’s procurement and commissioning strategy.
  • Oversee major procurement programmes and initiatives, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in procurement practices.
  • Provide expert commercial advice to senior leaders, elected members, and governance boards.
  • Offer assurance on procurement activity, ensuring compliance and best practice.
  • Support strategic decision-making across the organisation.

Essential Experience Required:

  • Significant experience leading procurement functions within the public sector.
  • Experience managing large-scale procurement spend (c. £500m+).
  • Experience providing senior-level commercial advice and influencing decision-making.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.

Essential Qualifications Required:

  • MCIP/CIP Qualified

Additional Information:

  • Working hours: 36 hours per week, in office as required.
  • Location: Station Road, London, Greater London, N22 7TY, United Kingdom.
  • Open to candidates working 4 days per week.
  • We work on a bi-weekly schedule.
