Job Purpose
To carry out a comprehensive range of carpentry, joinery, and associated multi-trade maintenance works across residential and commercial properties. The post holder will be responsible for repairing and maintaining timber and UPVC doors and windows, accurately measuring and specifying replacement joinery items, and delivering high-quality repairs that meet customer expectations, safety standards, and organisational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Carpentry and Joinery
- Carry out all aspects of carpentry and joinery repairs, maintenance, and installation works.
- Repair, maintain, and replace timber doors, frames, skirting boards, architraves, and associated fixtures.
- Repair and maintain sash windows, ensuring smooth operation and preservation of existing features.
- Repair and maintain UPVC windows and doors, including locks, handles, hinges, mechanisms, and glazing components.
- Undertake force-entry and emergency access works to UPVC doors and windows when required.
- Fit and replace timber doors, box frames, and other bespoke joinery components.
- Measuring and Specification
- Accurately measure doors, windows, box frames, and other joinery items for replacement or manufacture.
- Prepare and submit detailed joinery order requests with precise specifications.
- Ensure replacement joinery products are compliant with required standards and fit correctly upon installation.
- Multi-Trade Maintenance
- Carry out basic plumbing repairs such as replacing taps, traps, and minor pipework repairs.
- Undertake wall and floor tiling repairs and replacement works.
- Perform patch plastering, making-good works, and minor decorating preparation.
- Complete general maintenance tasks associated with property repairs.
- Quality and Customer Service
- Ensure all work is completed to a professional, safe, and acceptable standard.
- Deliver excellent customer service when working in occupied properties.
- Maintain clean and tidy working areas throughout and upon completion of works.
- Communicate effectively with tenants, residents, supervisors, and colleagues.
- Health and Safety
- Comply with all Health and Safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Use tools, equipment, and materials safely and appropriately.
- Conduct work in a manner that minimises risks to residents, colleagues, and the public.
- Report hazards, accidents, and incidents in accordance with company procedures.
Experience
- Proven experience in carpentry and joinery maintenance and repairs.
- Experience repairing and maintaining timber doors, frames, and windows.
- Experience working with sash windows and UPVC doors and windows.
- Experience accurately measuring and preparing specifications for replacement joinery.
- Experience carrying out maintenance work within occupied and void properties.
- Experience undertaking basic plumbing, tiling, and patch plastering repairs.
- Experience within social housing, local authority, or property maintenance environments.
- Experience undertaking responsive repairs and planned maintenance works.
- Experience carrying out emergency repairs and force-entry works.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry and Joinery (or equivalent qualification/experience).
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Competency in the safe use of carpentry and maintenance equipment.
- NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry and Joinery.
- CSCS Card.
- Health and Safety qualification such as IOSH Working Safely.
- Additional trade qualifications in plumbing, tiling, or plastering.
