- Job Purpose
The Café Supervisor will support the Café Manager in the day-to-day operation of the café, ensuring excellent customer service, efficient service delivery, and effective supervision of front-of-house staff.
The postholder will lead by example, maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety, and help create a welcoming environment for all customers visiting Avenham Park Café.
The role requires previous supervisory experience within a hospitality, café, restaurant, or catering environment and the ability to motivate and support a team in a busy customer-focused setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Supervision
- Supervise and support front-of-house staff during daily café operations.
- Allocate duties and monitor staff performance to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and on-the-job training to team members.
- Support the Café Manager in maintaining staff morale and promoting teamwork.
- Assist with staff scheduling and ensuring adequate staffing levels during service periods.
- Customer Service
- Deliver and promote excellent customer service standards at all times.
- Handle customer queries, requests, and complaints professionally and efficiently.
- Create a welcoming and positive experience for all customers.
- Lead by example in providing friendly and professional service.
- Operational Support
- Assist the Café Manager with the daily running of the café.
- Ensure service areas are prepared and fully stocked before opening.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the Café Manager.
- Support cash handling procedures, till operations, and end-of-day reconciliations.
- Assist with ordering, receiving, and storing supplies when required.
- Food Safety and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food hygiene, health and safety, and company policies.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout customer and service areas.
- Ensure safe working practices are followed by all staff members.
- Report maintenance issues, hazards, or health and safety concerns promptly.
- Administration and Record Keeping
- Complete relevant records and documentation accurately.
- Assist with monitoring stock control and wastage levels.
- Support reporting requirements and operational audits as directed by the Café Manager.
Experience Required
- Previous experience working in a café, restaurant, catering, or hospitality environment.
- Experience supervising or leading front-of-house teams.
- Experience delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience handling customer enquiries and resolving complaints effectively.
- Experience operating tills and handling cash transactions.
- Experience within a visitor attraction, park café, leisure, or tourism setting.
- Experience with stock control and ordering processes.
- Experience training or mentoring staff.
Qualifications
- Good standard of general education.
- Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Supervisory or Team Leader qualification.
