3 Month Contract With A Local Authority

Job Purpose

To coordinate and manage the Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessment and review process for children and young people aged 0 to 25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The role will act as the main point of contact for families, schools, and partner agencies, ensuring statutory duties are fulfilled within required timescales and that children and young people receive appropriate, person-centred support and provision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the main point of contact for parents/carers and young people throughout the EHC assessment and review process.
  • Coordinate Education, Health and Care needs assessments for children and young people aged 0 to 25.
  • Ensure children, young people, and families are fully involved in the assessment process and that their views are accurately reflected in EHC plans.
  • Work collaboratively with schools, education providers, health professionals, social care teams, and voluntary agencies to gather information and coordinate support.
  • Prepare high-quality draft Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) with clear, SMART outcomes and provision.
  • Ensure statutory assessments and annual reviews are completed within required timescales and in line with legislation.
  • Facilitate and support annual reviews and other review meetings for existing EHCPs.
  • Attend mediation meetings and support SEND Tribunal processes as required.
  • Maintain accurate case records, electronic files, and case management systems in line with GDPR and data protection requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support to less experienced EHCP Coordinators where appropriate.
  • Support the ongoing development and improvement of SEND policies, procedures, and service delivery.
  • Manage workload effectively, prioritising tasks in line with statutory requirements, risk, and service demands.
  • Build effective working relationships with partner agencies and stakeholders to ensure coordinated service delivery.

Requirements

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Detailed knowledge of Part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014, SEND legislation, and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Knowledge and understanding of SEND Tribunal procedures.
  • Experience working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
  • Experience leading or coordinating multi-agency meetings.
  • Experience preparing person-centred plans, reports, and assessments.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience working in partnership with education, health, and social care professionals.
  • Proficient IT skills and experience using electronic case management systems.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, GDPR, and data protection requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using a range of communication methods, including non-verbal communication where required.
  • Teaching qualification, SENCO qualification, or evidence of continued professional development in SEND or education.
  • Knowledge of Local Authority duties relating to SEND.
  • Understanding of the rights of parents, children, and young people regarding SEND provision.
  • Experience working across a broad range of education, health, and social care settings.
