Civic Marketplace is proving the thesis: public procurement is broken, and we’ve built the rails to fix it. Cities are signing up, co‐ops are on board, and revenue is flowing. Now we’re looking for a technical leader to help us scale what we’ve built. Someone who can move fast without breaking things, make smart bets on tech, and lay the foundations for long-term growth.

You’ll be a key partner in shaping the product, platform, and team – building on a pragmatic stack (Webflow, Xano, Algolia, AI) that’s served us well, and evolving it as we grow. We’re not looking for someone to reinvent the wheel. We’re looking for someone who knows how to ship quickly, integrate AI thoughtfully, and build scalable systems that serve real‐world users. You’ll work across the stack, stay close to the code, and help us take Civic Marketplace to the next level.

Why Civic Marketplace?

  • Mission-Driven & Ambitious – Make a real impact by modernizing public sector procurement across America.
  • A pragmatic tech stack – Webflow, Xano, Algolia, and AI – ready for someone to lead its evolution as we scale.
  • Product-First Culture – We focus on outcomes, using the right technology to move quickly toward our goals.
  • High ownership – Full autonomy to make technical decisions and shape the future of the platform.

Role & Responsibilities

  1. Technical Strategy & Hands‐On Development
    • Comfortable owning and iterating on our low‐code platform, which enables procurement teams to find, shortlist, and match contracts from vetted suppliers.
    • Enjoys being hands‐on in the code and understanding how every part of the stack fits together.
    • Excited to shape our technical architecture and apply AI to make the customer experience smarter and smoother.
    • Ensure seamless API integrations, optimizing third‐party services while maintaining platform flexibility.
    • Balances speed, scalability, and technical debt – always with an eye on the next company milestone.
    • Improve search and data access using Algolia and other smart retrieval tools.
    • Works closely with product and commercial teams to ensure tech choices align with customer needs and business priorities.
  2. Leadership
    • Comfortable working in a high‐impact role, influencing product, technology, and business strategy.
    • Able to collaborate closely with non‐technical procurement partners and internal colleagues, translating complex concepts into clear, accessible language.
    • Build and grow the engineering team to match the company's priorities and pace – using freelancers, agencies, or permanent hires as needed, without overcommitting.
    • Fosters a team culture built on accountability, experimentation, and transparency.
    • Establishes practical approaches to security, performance, and reliability in a fast‐moving startup.

Who You Are

  • A technical leader with a proven track record of moving product‐led teams forward at pace. Experience in ecommerce, B2B SaaS, or marketplaces is a plus.
  • Looking to grow with the company and take on increasing leadership over time.
  • Familiar with Low‐Code/No‐Code tools like Xano and Webflow, or keen to upskill quickly.
  • Strong grasp of AI‐driven workflows, search optimization, and process automation.
  • Full-Stack Capable – Hands-on with React, APIs, databases, and third‐party integrations.
  • Thrives in an environment with high autonomy and full ownership of technical decisions.
  • Experience working within teams using agile methodologies and collaborating asynchronously (e.g. Slack).
