As a Reviews Officer in our Housing Solutions and Homelessness Service, you will make a powerful contribution to people across Westminster. Working directly with residents to protect their rights and prevent homelessness, you will manage a complex and high-risk caseload, providing specialist advice and guidance to a wide variety of clients, colleagues and partner agencies.
Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed assessments and investigations; resolve disputes and attend tribunals or legal hearings to defend the rights of residents.
- Draft and review complex correspondence and legal documents.
- Respond to safeguarding concerns, ensuring the safety and security of residents.
- Split time between community and office-based work, acting as a visible, proactive presence for residents.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to service-users and colleagues; make recommendations confidently and communicate complex information clearly.
- Negotiate with landlords and work through financial difficulties with residents, securing affordable agreements to preserve tenancies.
- Collaborate with officers across the department and the wider Council to maximise residents' income and sustain long-term tenancy.
Qualifications
- Established professional with proven experience managing complex housing and homelessness cases.
- In-depth knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities, housing and homelessness law and relevant legislation.
- Experience interpreting and applying legislation in frontline practice, making balanced decisions in line with policy.
- Strong judgment, empathy and the ability to handle high-pressure situations calmly and appropriately.
- Excellent communication skills and the capacity to convey complex information clearly to a range of audiences.
