My client is a family owned Rail sub-contractor who are turning over £15M. They are based on the outskirts of Hertfordshire with great transport links into central London. They have a very good reputation in the sector, sub-contracting for main contractors such as AMCO, Colas Rail and Volkerfitzpatrick as well as having strong relationships with Network Rail and London Underground. My client specialises in platform extensions, platform upgrades, groundworks and concrete works within a rail environment. The founding owner of the company still has a huge involvement and you would be reporting to him directly.

Due to the company continuing to expand they are looking for a freelance Project Manager to look after a mixture of civils & premises projects, this will be on LUL projects and long-term frameworks. Responsibilities will include the delivery of the project which will include platform extensions, station upgrades, track infrastructure, civil engineering works as well as planned and reactive maintenance. The successful candidate will be involved in a full 360 Project Management role, which will cover design management, mainly of 3rd party design consultants, tendering, delivery of works, health and safety on-site, and staying on top of the commercial aspects of projects. The projects you will be involved in will range up to values in the region of £4M. This is also a client-facing role, you will be liaising daily with London Underground.

The successful candidate will be responsible for looking after multiple projects. You will ideally come from a Tier One background and will have an excellent understanding of the commercial aspects of the projects. You will also need to be able to build on and comment on programmes and deal with early warnings. The project you will be working on is a 5 year rail based framework and so there will be no shortage of secured work as well as opportunities to progress within the company.

You will have the satisfaction of working for a company who look after their staff and support their staff with constant development and the chance to be noticed and gain promotions and work up the ladder within the company. You will be rewarded with a competitive day rate ranging from £400.00 - £440.00 per day. They are happy to pay you as a LTD company or through an umbrella company.

You will need to have a PTS. A degree in either Civil Engineering or Construction Management. A stable career working within a rail environment for either Main Contractors or tier 2 contractors (UK based), people who have only worked on the client side won’t be considered for this opportunity.
