About the company:

This business is one of my top clients. Having worked with them for the past 10+ years, I have seen them develop in both size and capability over this time. They now currently turnover above £120 million per annum, specialising in concrete frame, groundwork and demolition packages ranging in value up to £50 million each for a variety of residential and commercial contractors and developers throughout London and the surrounding Home Counties. They have a very modern edge to the business while maintaining traditional roots.

On a personal note, I believe this company is one of the best because of the environment they create for their people and because of the personalities of the superb senior management/directorship team. They go that extra mile to not only retain their staff but to truly keep them happy to be with the business. Small things have been added to the office, like a gym that people have access to all day. They have a treatment room where massages and cosmetic treatments are available to everyone on Fridays, free of charge. And they now even have a rooftop garden and BBQ area. I’d want to work here myself if I had the relevant experience!

They really are a great company to work for to gain great project experience, to develop capability in modern construction techniques and to be part of the values they believe in.

About the opportunity:

Due to the on-going expansion of the company, our client is recruiting permanently for a Business Development Manager who holds vast experience of identifying and obtaining opportunities within the demolition, RC Frame and Groundworks sector. Based from their office in Hertfordshire, you will work alongside the Directors and must be able to carry out the following responsibilities with a comfortable level of autonomy:

  • To provide our client with a steady stream of tender opportunities in order to increase turnover and profitability in line with the business plan
  • To promote the image of the organisation within the market place
  • Provide new business opportunities, which reflect the business objectives agreed in the current business plan
  • Identify key decision makers within Clients and other professionals who are able to provide repeat business opportunities
  • Review regularly potential clients and identify their individual work programmes from which likely new business opportunities will be forthcoming
  • Ensure that the value of new business opportunities is sufficient each month to support and maintain the targeted growth
  • Maintain high market visibility by attending networking and construction events

About the benefits and rewards:

For this opportunity, my client is targeting professionals looking to earn anywhere between £80,000 - £120,000 per annum, however specific remuneration will depend on experience and suitability. Furthermore, there will be a generous package offered including car allowance or company vehicle, company bonus, private healthcare, and other benefits associated with a large successful contractor.

About the requirements:

In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must hold a proven track record in business development within the UK construction industry, with demonstrable experience gained specifically within the demolition, groundworks and reinforced concrete subcontracting sectors. You will possess an established network of contacts and a strong understanding of the procurement and tendering processes associated with major construction projects, having successfully developed and maintained relationships with Tier 1 main contractors and developers. A commercial mindset, coupled with the ability to identify, secure and nurture new business opportunities is essential, alongside experience of managing key accounts and contributing to long-term business growth.

You must be able to demonstrate a stable employment history, reflecting a consistent and successful career within the construction sector and will reside within a realistic daily commuting distance of their Hertfordshire office.

Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship management skills are essential, together with the credibility and technical understanding required to represent the business across a wide range of demolition, groundworks and RC projects.
