Our client, who is part of a larger business and has been established for over 20 years, is a specialist engineering contractor working within the residential and commercial sector, undertaking projects ranging up to £25M with an annual turnover in excess of £50M. They deliver a broad range of infrastructure and enabling works, typically at the front end of construction projects, which include groundworks, drainage, foundations, hard landscaping, public realm works and substructures.
About the opportunity:
Due to company expansion, our client is recruiting permanently for a Head of Environmental and Sustainability to join their HSEQ Team. This is a senior-level position within the Group reporting directly to the CCO. Based in the office in Kent with sites undertaken throughout the South East, as the Head of Sustainability and Environment, you will lead the development and implementation of the company’s environmental and sustainability strategy across a portfolio of civil engineering projects spanning residential and commercial developments.
You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, driving best practice in sustainable construction, and embedding a culture of environmental responsibility across all project stages—from pre-construction through to delivery and handover. Working closely with operational, commercial, and design teams, the role will play a key part in reducing environmental impact, improving resource efficiency, and supporting clients’ sustainability objectives across projects typically valued up to £25m across the South East.
About the rewards and benefits:
For this permanent opportunity, we are targeting professionals looking to earn anywhere from £78,000 to £83,000 per annum, however specific salary will depend on experience and suitability. In addition to this, you will receive a car allowance of £5,500, with the ability to opt for the vehicle salary sacrifice scheme, health care cover for you and your spouse, 24 days annual leave plus an extra day for your birthday (with the option to purchase extra holiday), perkbox discount scheme and 2 volunteering days per year.
About the requirements:
In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must hold a strong background in environmental management within civil engineering, hold deep knowledge of UK environmental legislation and planning requirements and experience with ISO 14001 and sustainability frameworks (BREEAM). As this is a senior opportunity, you must have proven experience of operating at this level previously and ideally, you hold a charter status and a valid CSCS card.
