Role Overview

As a Vehicle Software Update Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting vehicle performance, safety, connectivity and compliance by carrying out Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles software updates, technical campaigns and system enhancements.

Working within our Aftersales operation, you will ensure that customer vehicles receive the latest manufacturer-approved updates efficiently, accurately and in line with Volkswagen Group standards.

This position requires strong technical aptitude, exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

You will work closely with Technicians, Service Advisors and Workshop Control teams to support workshop efficiency, maximise vehicle uptime and deliver a first-class customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vehicle Software Management
  • Perform software updates, technical campaigns and manufacturer-led product enhancements in accordance with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' technical procedures and guidelines.
  • Connect vehicles to approved manufacturer diagnostic and programming systems to identify, download and install required software updates.
  • Ensure all software updates are completed safely, accurately and within agreed workshop and customer timescales.
  • Support vehicle compliance by ensuring all applicable manufacturer campaigns, recalls and service actions are completed as required.
  • Technical Quality & Compliance
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-update and post-update vehicle health checks to verify system integrity and operational performance.
  • Validate that all vehicle functions and control systems are operating correctly following software installation.
  • Investigate and resolve basic software-related faults or update concerns, escalating complex issues through the appropriate manufacturer technical channels when required.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles technical standards, warranty requirements and quality processes.
  • Operational Excellence
  • Accurately record all software activity, update completion details and supporting documentation within manufacturer and dealership systems.
  • Work collaboratively with Workshop Controllers and Aftersales teams to optimise workshop productivity and vehicle throughput.
  • Support efficient vehicle preparation processes to minimise customer inconvenience and maximise vehicle availability.
  • Contribute to the achievement of departmental performance, quality and customer satisfaction objectives.
  • Customer & Team Support
  • Liaise effectively with Service Advisors and technical colleagues to ensure clear communication regarding software campaigns, vehicle status and update requirements.
  • Demonstrate a customer-focused approach by supporting the timely return of vehicles and helping to deliver an outstanding ownership experience.
  • Build positive working relationships across the Aftersales team, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Continuous Development
  • Maintain a current understanding of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles technology, vehicle systems, connectivity features and software developments.
  • Participate in manufacturer and Citygate training programmes to ensure technical knowledge remains aligned with emerging vehicle technologies.
  • Actively support the development of best practice processes for software management and vehicle technology within the business.
