The Teacher Assistant supports the classroom teacher in providing a safe, structured, and academically engaging learning environment. This role assists with instructional support, classroom management, and daily school operations to ensure that all scholars receive high-quality learning experiences and the social-emotional support needed for success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instructional Support
    • Assist the teacher with implementing lesson plans, activities, and instructional strategies
    • Provide small-group and one-on-one academic support as directed by the teacher
    • Support scholars in completing assignments, projects, and assessments
    • Help prepare instructional materials, organize resources, and set up learning centers
    • Model and reinforce school-wide academic and behavioral expectations
  • Classroom Management and Scholar Support
    • Supervise scholars during instructional time, transitions, lunch, and recess (as assigned)
    • Assist with positive behavior support strategies and redirection when needed
    • Build strong, supportive relationships with scholars and encourage learning engagement
    • Monitor scholar work and provide feedback aligned to teacher direction
    • Maintain scholar confidentiality at all times
  • Operational and Administrative Duties
    • Attend required staff meetings, training, and professional development sessions
    • Assist with grading, attendance, data collection, and classroom documentation
    • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment
    • Support arrival, dismissal, hallway, and school-wide duty assignments
    • Serve as a positive and professional representative of the school at all times

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; associate degree or higher preferred
  • Prior experience working with children in an educational setting preferred
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to follow instructional direction and school procedures
  • Demonstrated patience, professionalism, and commitment to student success
