Background
The Intellectual Property & Commercialisation team within Research & InnovationServices drives commercial impact from City St George\’s research. This part-timerole (0.5 FTE) provides business partnering services to the School of Health andMedical Sciences, identifying, protecting, and commercialising novel ideas andinventions. Reporting to the Head of IP & Commercialisation, you\’ll manage theUniversity\’s IP portfolio, negotiate commercial agreements, lead spin-outprocesses, and ensure effective risk management in IP commercialisationactivities
Responsibilities
You\’ll provide business partnering services to identify and develop commerciallyviable IP, working closely with academics on commercialisation plans andbusiness strategies. Key duties include managing relationships with patent agents,negotiating licensing agreements and spin-out contracts with industry partners,and coordinating with internal teams including Research & Innovation Contractsand General Counsel. You\’ll seek external funding for IP development, advise on IPprovisions in research contracts, proactively support spin-out companies includingboard representation, and raise awareness of IP matters through academicengagement and events
Person Specification
We seek a candidate with a postgraduate degree and professional training inbusiness or legal issues (M.Sc. in Intellectual Property Law or equivalentpreferred). You\’ll have comprehensive knowledge of IP commercialisation andexperience drafting agreements including patents, licenses, options, andshareholders agreements. Significant experience in technology transfer orbusiness development, preferably in a university or technology-based company, isessential. You\’ll demonstrate excellent communication, leadership, negotiationand commercial awareness skills, with the ability to operate effectively at theacademic-commercial interface and manage complex, varied projectsindependently while working collaboratively within a team.
