Background

The Sport and Wellness Service provides opportunities for students, staff, and the local community to be active, social and competitive through sport and physical activity. The Sport and Wellness Assistant is a key front-line role within CitySport, delivering excellent customer service, supporting the day-to-day operation of sports facilities, facilitating sport and wellbeing activities, and helping to create a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment for all users.

Responsibilities

The Sport and Wellness Assistant will welcome and support facility users, manage enquiries, control access to CitySport, and undertake Leisure Management System administration. The role includes setting up activity spaces, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety, processing bookings and payments, facilitating sport and wellbeing sessions, supporting events and outreach activities, and ensuring facilities are presented to a professional standard at all times.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have experience in a customer-facing role and excellent communication and organisational skills. They will be able to work effectively within a team, follow procedures accurately, and provide outstanding customer service in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should be willing to work a flexible shift pattern and either hold, or be willing to obtain, First Aid at Work and sports coaching qualifications.

The selection process will involve an interview and a practical assessment (sports hall and booking system) designed to evaluate customer service skills, communication, and the ability to respond to operational scenarios within a sport and leisure environment. Further details will be confirmed at the interview stage. Reasonable adjustments will be made where required for candidates with a declared disability or those applying under the Guaranteed Interview Scheme.

This is a shift-based role requiring flexibility to work early mornings, evenings and weekends on a rolling rota. The normal working hours are 35 hours per week on average across the rota period. The successful candidate will also be supported through training and development opportunities to aid career progression within the sport and fitness sector.
