The Student Development team is a part of City St George’s Careers and Employability department and brings together experts in the promotion and delivery of developmental opportunities which complement studies and support students into becoming the ‘complete graduate’. The Student Development Officer works with the leads of the Community Volunteering, Course Buddies (peer-mentoring) and Professional Mentoring programmes to ensure successful development and delivery in each area.

Responsibilities:

  • Enables students to engage in Community Volunteering, Course Buddies (peer-mentoring) and Professional Mentoring.
  • Covers operational administration, event planning, preparation and delivery, relationship management, communications, evaluation, reporting, recognition and quality.
  • Supports students to participate in extra-curricular activity to develop skills, complement their academic achievements and help them become successful, highly employable graduates.
  • This role is offered on a hybrid working basis, requiring work on campus at the Clerkenwell site for 60% of their working time (equivalent to three days per week), with the remaining time worked remotely, subject to business needs.
  • Involves supporting the delivery of events within the Student Development team or Careers and Employability department, which require occasional evening or weekend work at certain times of year, for which you accrue time off in lieu.

Person Specification:

  • An understanding of the needs of a diverse and multi-cultural student population and a demonstrated commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience in relationship management, delivering events and using databases or customer management tools.
  • Excellent organisational and operational abilities, strong planning and prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively with people at different levels, together with emotional intelligence and sensitivity to the needs of others.
  • Ability to self-motivate, work collaboratively and seek opportunities to improve service provision.
