The role will be associated with the GUARD project (Ensuring Interoperable and Trustworthy Knowledge Graphs for Defence and National Security AI) funded by The Turing Grand Challenge on Defence and National Security: https://ernestojimenezruiz.github.io/projects/guard/
Responsibilities
Conduct research in knowledge representation, knowledge graphs, ontologies, and neurosymbolic AI within the GUARD project, developing open-source methods for knowledge graph validation using OWL integrity constraints and Datalog reasoning.
Create evaluation datasets.
Publish and present research.
Collaborate with partners such as The Alan Turing Institute and Dstl.
Support knowledge graph interoperability, ontology alignment, benchmarking, and the project's long-term sustainability.
Qualifications
Hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline with a strong publication record in Knowledge Graphs and AI.
Have experience in Knowledge Graphs, Ontologies, Semantic Web or related technologies.
Possess software development skills in a mainstream programming language.
Ability to conduct independent research, communicate complex technical concepts, collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, and produce high-quality publications, reports, and stakeholder engagement outcomes.
The post is permanent subject to fixed-term funding for 12 months, reflecting the University’s commitment to providing greater stability for research staff. The role is funded through external research funding. Continued employment will therefore be subject to the continuation or replacement of funding.
