Background
We are seeking a pro‑active Tax focused individual to join the team. This role sits within the Financial Accounting, Tax and Treasury team in the University’s Finance Directorate. The team is responsible for financial reporting and statutory accounts, ensuring compliance with tax, audit and regulatory requirements, supporting corporate financial planning and balance sheet management, overseeing treasury activities including cash forecasting and covenant compliance, and maintaining financial oversight of university subsidiaries and investments in spin‑out companies.
Responsibilities
- Full tax administration for university group entities, covering VAT, Gift Aid and Corporation Tax, including reporting, submissions, query handling, advisory liaison, systems reviews, and compliance activities such as Capital Goods Scheme, PESM reviews and Customs and Excise duties across jurisdictions.
- Manage reporting and tax compliance for at least one subsidiary.
- Support wider financial accounting activities, assist with month‑end and year‑end processes, audits, and provide cover within the finance team.
Person Specification
A degree‑educated (or equivalent experience) qualified accountant with proven experience. Strong knowledge of financial systems and procedures within higher education or similar complex environments, with an understanding of governance, compliance, and data protection frameworks. The candidate may be working towards tax qualifications (e.g. CTA), with proven experience in delivering full tax administration, including VAT, Gift Aid, Corporation Tax, reporting, submissions, advisory liaison, and compliance processes. The candidate must demonstrate strong experience across financial accounting, tax, and treasury functions, providing accurate information to stakeholders in a complex organisation.
