You are invited to submit an application for the role of Academic Lead for SSC1 within the MBBS Programme at City St George’s, University of London.
SSC1 is a core component of the MBBS curriculum, supporting students to develop academic writing, literature searching, critical appraisal, evidence synthesis and self‑directed learning skills.
These components provide students with structured opportunities to explore areas of biomedical science, social science, humanities, clinical practice and professional interest beyond the core curriculum.
You will provide academic and operational leadership for SSC1 including student briefings, tutor recruitment and support, proposal review, student allocation, assessment guidance, marking and moderation processes, reporting, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
- Your new role will include
- Provide academic leadership for SSC1 within the MBBS SSC Programme.
- Lead or contribute to student briefing and guidance for relevant cohorts.
- Recruit and support tutors and markers.
- Oversee project proposal review, allocation processes, marking guidance and moderation.
- Attend relevant SSC, year, assessment and examination board meetings.
- Produce reports and lead improvements arising from feedback and quality assurance processes.
- To be successful in your application you will have
- An academic or clinical academic colleague with enthusiasm for undergraduate medical education.
- Experience of teaching, supervision, assessment or academic support in healthcare professional education.
- A strong understanding of academic writing, literature review, evidence appraisal and self‑directed learning.
- Excellent organisational, communication and collaborative working skills.
- A commitment to inclusive education, student support and continuous improvement of the student experience.
