We are seeking an enthusiastic educator to contribute to the design, delivery, assessment and quality assurance of communication skills teaching across the MBBS programme. Working within the Division of Medical Education, you will support students in developing patient‑centred communication, consultation skills, shared decision‑making, professionalism, empathy, inclusive practice, interprofessional communication, safe handover and the ability to manage complex or sensitive conversations.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver high‑quality teaching in communication skills across the MBBS programme, including small‑group, simulated patient and scenario‑based teaching.
- Teach consultation skills, shared decision‑making, professionalism, and sensitive or complex conversations, and promote inclusive, patient‑centred communication.
- Contribute to the design, review and updating of teaching materials, ensuring alignment with programme outcomes, GMC expectations and assessment requirements.
- Contribute to communication skills assessment, including CCAs, station writing, examiner activity, marking and standard setting.
- Provide constructive, developmental feedback to students, including those requiring targeted support or remediation.
- Support the recruitment, induction, training and development of communication skills tutors and simulated patients.
- Act as a personal tutor and contribute to student support and academic development activities.
- Engage with evaluation, quality assurance, scholarship and continuous improvement of communication skills teaching and assessment.
To be successful in your application you will be an academic, clinical academic or consultant with relevant expertise in communication skills education, experience of teaching and assessment in healthcare professional education, and a commitment to inclusive, student‑centred practice.
