This is a key academic leadership role within the clinical practice phase of the curriculum, providing specialty-level oversight of placement-based learning. The role has been developed to strengthen academic leadership across clinical placements, enhance consistency of student experience across partner NHS sites, and support high-quality delivery aligned with GMC Outcomes for Graduates. We are seeking an outstanding clinician‑educator to take on the role of Core Specialty Lead in Medicine for the penultimate year of the MBBS programme. You will work closely with the MBBS Senior Leadership Team and Quality Team, as well as placement leads across partner organisations, to ensure effective coordination, delivery, and continuous improvement of Medicine placements within penultimate year. The role also reflects the increasing importance of the virtual learning environment and the need for robust academic oversight of placement content and delivery across diverse clinical settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic oversight of Medicine placements within P-year, ensuring alignment with curriculum outcomes and assessment requirements.
  • Lead on the development, quality, and annual review of placement content on the Virtual Learning Environment (Canvas).
  • Act as a key point of contact for specialty-specific queries from placement leads, academic teams, and the MBBS programme.
  • Work collaboratively with partner NHS providers to support consistency and equity of student learning experience across sites.
  • Support quality assurance processes, including identifying and escalating placement-related concerns where appropriate.
  • Facilitate communication between university and clinical teams to support delivery of high‑quality placement‑based education.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and enhancement within the specialty.
  • Engage with assessment processes, including supporting question writing and examining where appropriate.
  • Work closely with MBBS leadership, Quality teams, and administrative colleagues to support effective programme delivery.
