We are seeking to appoint a highly skilled and motivated individual as a research assistant. We are keen to hear from candidates with knowledge of and experience with applying standard empirical research methods in applied microeconomics. The appointed candidate will support Dr. Sujata Visaria with empirical research projects that generate and use micro-level data from Vietnam and the Philippines. Depending on the appointee's aptitude and interest, there is scope for professional growth and skill development relevant to a research-focused higher education.

The post holder will primarily contribute to data processing and analysis, survey design, literature reviews, report writing and presentations. We envision the individual will mainly work on two empirical research projects that involve primary and secondary data, one analysing the impact of cassava production on socio-economic outcomes in Vietnam, and the other involving a randomised controlled trial of a financial empowerment intervention for migrant workers from Philippines. Responsibilities will include literature reviews; quantitative data cleaning; analysis; reporting of findings; the design of questionnaires, intervention materials, and training manuals; liaising with overseas collaborators, and participation in regular meetings with the supervisor and larger research team.

Candidates must have a BSc/BA (or equivalent) in economics, finance or a relevant field. They should have strong quantitative skills, knowledge of methodologies for impact assessment, basic GIS concepts, ability to manipulate GIS data, and knowledge and experience of coding in Stata and/or R. They must have good interpersonal and communications skills. First-hand experience with conducting impact assessment exercises and interest in studying the socio-economic problems of developing countries will be a plus.
