Background
Procurement sits within the Finance directorate which has recently transitioned into a new operating model and structure following the merger of St George’s and City Universities. These roles require experienced procurement professionals with or working towards CIPS qualifications. Both roles report to the Head of Procurement and will be supported by an individual Procurement Co‑Ordinator (Grade 6) also being recruited as part of this campaign. The IT Category Manager will line manage this Co‑Ordinator who will have a dotted line into the other Category Manager.
Responsibilities
- To identify, plan and deliver benefits for IT/Digital (one role) and Academic, Science and Health related contracts (second role), ensuring deliverables are aligned with the overarching Procurement plan which supports the aims of the University.
- This will involve creating and delivering appropriate strategies for a range of sub‑categories and delivering outcomes defined in the procurement plan.
- Leading high value and risk procurements in line with both policy and wider legislation, supporting the lifecycle of contracts to drive value and mitigating third party risk for the University.
- Providing coaching to a Procurement Co‑Ordinator, supporting them in their role and their development.
- Supporting the Head of Procurement with developing systems, processes and guidance/training to improve the performance of procurement across the University.
Key to success in this role will be the ability to build and manage relationships with diverse groups of people (internal stakeholders, suppliers, senior management) and the ability to constructively challenge.
Person Specification
It is expected that the role‑holder would be a procurement professional with MCIPS qualification or working towards and have a minimum of 5 years experience leading significant procurement projects. Experience of managing procurements under public procurement regulations, and within the Procurement Act 2023 is desirable though not essential. Candidates should have experience of managing spend within areas related to the category role in which they express an interest (IT/Digital or Academic/Science/Health related). An ability to manage competing priorities and communicate effectively with stakeholders will be key to success in this role.
