Reporting to the President, and as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Assistant Vice-President (EDI) will work strategically and collaboratively with senior leaders to drive performance and achievement of the University’s strategy and vision. The role holder will also work closely with Executive Deans, the relevant Associate Deans in Schools, Vice Presidents, Chief People Officer, Director of Student Experience, all four Vice‑Presidents, and other Professional Services Directors.
The Assistant Vice-President will lead the Office for Institutional Equity & Inclusion (OEIE) and will line manage the Head of EDI. The Assistant Vice-President will role model City St George’s values and will demonstrate commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and to their own professional development.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Vice‑President is responsible for strategic leadership of all activities relating to equity, diversity and inclusion across the University, with a particular focus on enhancing and developing the experience and progression of students and staff. They will lead the effective implementation of City St George’s EDI Strategy in collaboration with the President and all members of SLT along with relevant Associate Deans, the Head of EDI, the OIEI and other academic and professional staff. They will champion EDI across the university and promote excellence in research, education and the wider student experience through working with student representatives to build inclusive and welcoming environments for all students.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will be post graduate qualified and hold a relevant professional qualification/professional body membership (and Fellowship HEA for an academic appointment). They will have demonstrable evidence of EDI advocacy, a strong ability to lead change as well as a good understanding of EDI innovations. The ability to collaborate and build excellent working relationships with internal and external colleagues is required, along with diplomacy, excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will possess a natural authority and ability to engage strategically and contribute to the national debate on EDI.
