About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established multi-trade and fit-out subcontractor delivering projects for Premier League and Tier 1 main contractors across Central London. Following a strong forward order book and planned future workloads, they are looking to add a Quantity Surveyor to the commercial team.

You will take commercial ownership of a small portfolio of projects, typically valued between £5M and £10M. This is a great opportunity for a QS who understands how subcontract work really runs, and who wants to grow with a business that has secured pipeline ahead.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full commercial lifecycle of a couple of live projects (£5M to £10M), from post-contract set-up through to final account agreement
  • Prepare and submit monthly valuations and payment applications, and manage cashflow and payment compliance
  • Procure, negotiate and administer supply chain and sub-subcontract packages, including orders, subcontract documentation and subcontractor valuations
  • Manage change effectively: identify, price, record and negotiate variations, instructions and EOTs, and ensure entitlement is protected and recovered in good time
  • Prepare and maintain cost value reconciliations (CVRs), forecasts and cost-to-complete reports, and highlight risks and opportunities early
  • Work closely with project managers, contracts managers, site teams and design teams to keep commercial and programme matters aligned
  • Build strong working relationships with main contractor commercial teams, and negotiate and agree final accounts
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and contractual correspondence
  • Contribute to tender pricing and handover into delivery where required

Candidate Profile

Essential

  • Proven experience as a QS within a subcontractor environment, ideally joinery multi-trade, fit-out or a specialist trade background
  • Experience commercially managing multiple projects at the same time, in the £5M to £10M value range
  • Strong track record in managing change, variations and final accounts
  • Experience working with Tier 1 main contractors, with an understanding of their commercial processes and expectations
  • Working knowledge of JCT and/or NEC subcontract forms and the Construction Act (payment and pay-less processes)
  • Confident negotiator and communicator, comfortable working with both site and commercial colleagues
  • Experience of Central London projects and their logistical and programme constraints

Desirable

  • Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
  • MRICS, or working towards it
  • Experience on high-profile projects such as sports, hospitality, leisure or commercial fit-out
  • Experience across more than one trade package, such as partitions, ceilings, joinery, M&E or finishes

What's on Offer

  • Long-term opportunity arising from planned future workloads
  • Central London (SE1) office base
  • Exposure to prestigious, high-profile projects with Tier 1 clients
