Overview
Our client is looking for an experienced Highways Engineer for 6 months, potentially longer, to work on a multitude of projects and schemes.
The position supports the delivery of transport schemes based in York and involves working with site engineers, inspectors, supervisors and project managers to deliver work as required.
Responsibilities
Work on feasibility studies and detailed designs for road safety schemes, including safer routes to schools, accident cluster sites, danger reduction initiatives and active travel schemes.
Review sites to identify main issues, generate multiple viable options in accordance with current guidance, and develop preliminary cost estimates.
Contribute to a programme of schemes from feasibility through detailed design, public consultation, and implementation.
The role is full-time with hybrid working; site attendance in York is required, roughly two days per week.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Good understanding of design principles, design standards and contract and tendering procedures.
- Good working knowledge of the Method of Measurement for Highway Works and estimating.
- Previous experience of Highways/Highways Maintenance schemes.
- Ideally experience in designing Cycle Ways and Footway Schemes.
- Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations.
- Previous experience of site supervision, project management and highways design (desirable).
- Experience of working for a local authority (desirable but not essential).
Compensation and Location
Rate of pay: £22.21 per hour. Based in York, with hybrid working and on-site requirements as described.
