Our local authority client is looking for an experienced Damp & Mould Surveyor/Inspector to join their Repairs and Maintenance team, based in York. This role involves providing specialist advice on complex repair issues, damp and mould, housing disrepair, and escalated cases, while ensuring statutory and regulatory obligations are met. You’ll work closely with in-house trades and contractors, overseeing works to guarantee quality, compliance, and value for money.
The main areas of focus will be to conduct detailed surveys of properties to identify damp and mould issues, diagnose root causes, and provide accurate reports with remedial recommendations. Liaise with residents, contractors, and project managers to ensure clear communication.
Key Responsibilities:- Inspect tenanted and empty homes, identifying maintenance and investment needs.
- Complete damp and mould assessments in line with Awaab’s Law.
- Manage cases from start to finish, providing timely updates and recommendations.
- Oversee and inspect work by contractors and in-house teams, ensuring compliance with HSE legislation.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety and housing standards, whilst maintaining accurate documentation and photographic evidence.
- Experience in building surveying in social housing, and experience relating to damp-proofing and diagnosis of damp/condensation in properties.
- Strong technical knowledge of building construction, repairs, and regulations.
- Experience in on-site supervision and managing contractors.
- Strong knowledge of building pathology and moisture-related issues.
- Diagnostic approach to problem-solving and specifying remedial works.
- Commercial awareness and ability to deliver value for money.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ideally, a technical qualification (HNC/RICS) and RICS/CIOB membership and previous experience as a damp and mould surveyor (social housing experience preferred).
This is a temporary role for a minimum of 3 months, potentially longer, at a rate of pay of £22.21 per hour, Monday to Friday, 37 hours a week.
