Our client based in York is looking for an interim Head of Construction Projects. This is a key interim leadership role, for circa 4-6 months, and will be accountable for the development, design and delivery of the clients major infrastructure and large highway improvement projects. You will deliver the clients capital works programme, overseeing the budgets, resources, with management responsibility for risk and scope of a wide portfolio of projects, from outline design, planning consent, procurement, through to the on site construction of key transport and highway works.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of project management methodologies and procurement frameworks. They will also have experience in managing large-scale infrastructure, regeneration, or capital projects, ideally with exposure of working with or for a public sector or local government authority. The role will involve the management and direct and indirect supervision of a team of circa 20.
What you will be doing:
- Lead on the planning, development, and delivery of multiple schemes of work and major capital projects.
- Oversee procurement processes, contract negotiations, and project management frameworks.
- Manage budgets, funding applications, and financial reporting.
- Coordinate with internal departments, external consultants, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal business teams and enabling service staff.
- Work closely with the team and a vast array of stakeholders, to ensure projects are properly managed.
- Apply technical and soft skills to manage work and people effectively.
What we need from you:
- Proven experience in managing large-scale infrastructure, regeneration, or capital projects, within the construction or transport/highways sectors (having worked with or for local authorities or government agencies would be beneficial).
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and procurement frameworks.
- Understanding of relevant planning, construction, and environmental legislation.
- Budget management and financial reporting experience.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Strong mix of soft skills and technical skills, with the ability to manage work and people effectively.
- Familiarity with project management software and tools.
