Ensuring our online services are accessible and available to everyone is a key priority for City of York Council, as more of our customers use digital media. We’re looking for a Web Officer to join our small but ambitious Web Team, as we continue to deliver websites with a high-quality customer-focused vision. Additional resource is sought during this busy time, whilst we integrate new software into our toolkit; the Web Officer role is key to achieving our goal as their day-to-day responsibilities support the changing and dynamic project environment. Within this short fixed-term contract, the successful candidate will focus on selected priorities aligned to a subset of responsibilities from the Job Profile.
Responsibilities
- Support the changing and dynamic project environment with day-to-day tasks aligned to a subset of responsibilities from the Job Profile (short fixed-term contract).
- Author and manage engaging online content that is user-friendly, compatible with modern technology, cyber-secure and accessible in accordance with accessibility regulations.
- Collaborate with the Web Team to deliver high-quality, customer-focused websites.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Experience in authoring and managing engaging online content; knowledge of content management and search engine optimisation.
- Experience with Microsoft, Adobe, Jadu, and Granicus software is advantageous.
- HTML and CSS coding skills with excellent syntax accuracy; ability to write for the web in plain English.
- Willingness to learn and develop; positive attitude towards collaborative working; knowledge of local government would be helpful.
- Excellent attention to detail and outstanding communication skills.

- As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate their competency to converse and provide advice to members of the public in spoken English to CEFR level C2.
