We are seeking three exceptional Mental Health Social Workers to support York’s Community Mental Health Transformation Programme, helping to improve outcomes for people with mental health needs across the city.
Available Posts:
- Two roles based within the Community Mental Health Hubs (Acomb Garth and Clarence Street)
- One role within the Pathway to Recovery Team, supporting York residents admitted to Foss Park Hospital
Working as part of multi-agency teams, successful candidates will contribute to the development of person-centred, strengths-based mental health services alongside clinical staff, peer support workers, carers, community connectors, and volunteers.
The Roles Promote:
- Co-production, recognising people as experts in their own lives
- A ‘no wrong door’ approach, ensuring accessible support and advice
- Early intervention and prevention, working closely with community and voluntary sector partners
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Carrying out Care Act assessments, support planning, Mental Capacity Act assessments, and S117 aftercare/discharge planning
- Managing a caseload using a strengths-based approach
- Providing timely support in urgent situations
- Contributing to multidisciplinary discussions and ensuring ethical, rights-based social work practice
- Offering guidance on Adult Social Care responsibilities, including safeguarding
These are evolving services, and all roles will ultimately operate within a 37-hour, seven-day service model with shifts up to 8pm, including some weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis. Current working patterns vary, but flexibility will be required as projects continue to develop and integrate. This role is suitable as a job share opportunity.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
