We have an exciting job opportunity for the position of Resettlement Support Workers support working within the CYC Housing Options and Support Service. We are looking to recruit a committed and enthusiastic person to provide high quality support to all customers living in Union Terrace.
Union Terrace is a resettlement supported accommodation scheme for single homeless people/rough sleepers, and homeless couples, providing accommodation and support to assist people to move on into independent accommodation. The successful applicant will provide a well maintained and responsive accommodation project to customers who are homeless and need supported housing and will oversee the daily operation within these accommodations.
You will provide appropriate formal 1-1 Resettlement support and emotional and physical support to people accessing and living in the service, who are vulnerable and under a lot of stress. Therefore, the successful applicant will have good interpersonal skills and understand issues people face when homeless or rough sleeping.
You will be capable of working on your own initiative and will be able to work in partnership with other services/agencies to support people such as social care, mental health, drug and alcohol services, probation and police etc. Experience of working with homeless people or in supported accommodation and an understanding of the issues surrounding the client groups is desirable, as well as experience of working on a 1:1 basis with complex individuals.
You will need to be able to demonstrate that you are sympathetic, firm, and able to show resilience and cope in situations which can be stressful as well as rewarding. You will be part of an ongoing staff rota to provide cover at the accommodation project on a 24 hour, 365 days per year basis and will be expected to be part of the shift rota patterns, working some weekends, bank holidays, and unsocial hours.
The successful applicant will take responsibility whilst on duty for ensuring the accommodation is kept in good repair and see to all matters of health and safety. The successful candidate will also offer support, both formal case work support as well as informal support to the customers living in the service and run the service operation whilst on duty.
The successful applicants will offer a safe and supportive environment and work as part of a multi-disciplined team, contributing to the running of the accommodation supporting the supervisor and manager in service delivery, including supporting people, repairs, rents, laundry, cleaning, catering, and health and safety.
The successful applicant will be part of a team of support workers; the role requires a flexible and understanding approach in what is sometimes a very challenging but rewarding environment. Union Terrace is a central part of the city’s strategy to reduce and eradicate rough sleeping.
The duties of this post require the postholder to undertake a basic Criminal Record check (unspent convictions only) via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
