City of York Council is looking for Project Managers to strengthen our Transport Projects team and help deliver improvements that make a real difference for our city. York offers a unique blend of historic character and forward‑looking infrastructure, combining roman walls, medieval streets, and Victorian rail heritage with a commitment to sustainable mobility, smart‑city innovation, and major regeneration projects. Reporting to our Senior Project Manager / Programme Manager, you will be working within a growing City Development directorate, focused on delivering a high‑quality, client‑responsive service. The Transport Projects team covers a diverse portfolio including our active travel programme, the rollout of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, expansion of our Park & Ride sites, complex road safety improvement projects, school streets, and York Outer Ring Road Dualling, the council’s largest major roads project.
Responsibilities
- End‑to‑end project management for transport projects, working with the client team from pre‑feasibility through to detailed design, consultation, procurement and construction.
- Carry out all aspects of contract management when works are externally tendered through consultancy and delivery frameworks, with support from the Senior Project Manager / Programme Manager.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure project objectives, timescales and budgets are met while maintaining high standards of client service.
Qualifications and Skills
- Enthusiastic and motivated individual with the ability to contribute to the team’s growth and success.
- Experience in the civil infrastructure sector, preferably but not essential in Highways & Transport.
- Excellent communication skills and proactive collaboration across stakeholders.
