Join to apply for the Highway Regulation Officer role at City of York Council. We have a great opportunity to join our busy Traffic Team as a Highway Regulation Officer. The role focuses on network management and highway regulation, including Traffic Regulation Orders, traffic signs, parking, highway licensing, and highway obstruction and encroachment issues. It supports lawful regulation of the public highway network during temporary, emergency, or permanent works arising from new development and improvement schemes.
The position involves a significant level of contact with residents, customers, businesses, and other Council departments. Good communication skills are required for face‑to‑face meetings, phone conversations, and written reports and responses to queries and requests.
You will benefit from the wider team’s experience, working closely with teammates to gather the data and information required to develop traffic management options, assess the pros and cons of these options, present them in reports to elected councillors and stakeholders, and make officer recommendations. This post is suitable as a job‑sharing position. Hybrid working arrangements are available; your working arrangements will be determined based on the role’s requirements and in collaboration with you during the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
