City of York Council is seeking to appoint a Programme Support Officer to our Public Health team, who will be central to the Health Trainer service. The Health Trainer service delivers the cityโ€™s Stop Smoking Service and one-to-one lifestyle advice to citizens of York, working with individuals to tackle health inequalities and support people to live healthy and independent lives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the front door for citizens referred by their healthcare professional or who have contacted us directly.
  • Support the team of Health Trainers and the Programme Manager in the effective delivery of the service.
  • Organise and book appointments, order supplies and equipment, post letters and nicotine replacement therapy, raise purchase orders and manage administration.
  • Maintain daily contact with a wide range of stakeholders, including citizens, health and care professionals, service staff, suppliers and colleagues across the council.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Confident on the telephone and face to face with colleagues.
  • Experience using ICT systems such as MS Office, patient record systems, financial management systems and virtual appointment software.
  • Full training in specific systems will be provided if required.
  • Competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public in spoken English at CEFR level C2.

Working Arrangements

Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
