The Opportunity
The Head of Business Growth and Innovation will oversee an integrated business growth, support, trade and investment function across the Combined Authority.
Reporting into the Director of Economy, this role will lead the York and North Yorkshire Growth Hub, ensuring the delivery of effective and impactful business support services while aligning with national and regional strategies. The successful candidate will also lead a proactive trade and investment function, promoting the region and securing new opportunities to drive sustainable economic growth.
This senior role involves shaping and analysing policy, leading programme delivery, and representing the Combined Authority in high-level engagements with government, stakeholders, and partners.
Additionally, You Will
- Provide expert briefings and advice to senior leaders, including the Mayor.
- Lead and manage high-performing delivery teams.
- Oversee strategic planning, budget management, and programme delivery across the service area.
- Build strong partnerships across public, private, and third sectors, to achieve the best support in delivering the Combined Authority’s priorities.
- Ensure compliance with governance, legal, and financial frameworks.
What You Will Bring
- Proven leadership in business growth, trade, or investment environments, with an in-depth knowledge of public sector management, devolution, and local government.
- Experience working with commercial investors and planning teams to unlock development opportunities.
- Understanding of planning processes and capital project delivery at local and national levels
- Track record of engaging with government departments on policy and funding.
- Skilled in managing complex projects, strategic planning, and performance reporting.
- Experience in driving organisational culture change and managing budgets.
