Working under the umbrella of the Staying Close team within Children’s Social care, you will provide direct employment support to families to access employment, training, learning and apprenticeship opportunities within the City of York. This involves working directly with families and young people who are either in unemployment or facing unemployment, assessing individual skills, interests and strengths and formulating a career pathway to enable people to fulfil their potential and develop independence and stability for the family.
The role is front facing with a wide range of businesses, companies and organisations within the City of York and will require the post holder to negotiate and ‘broker’ a commitment from them to support individuals to access employment and training opportunities to support their families. This role is designed to provide intensive support to families by focusing on employment and training. Working collaboratively with the other Opportunities Brokers, the post holder will ensure that families receive a coordinated package of support to achieve the best outcomes.
This is a hybrid role with work within the community and lone working. Your main office will be West Offices. City of York Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. We require the successful candidate to undertake an enhanced Criminal Record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
