We are looking to appoint an experienced Employer Engagement Officer to join our Strategic Skills Team, which is based within the City Development Directorate. This is a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2027.
Responsibilities
- Act as a skills specialist, working alongside the Council’s Business Growth Managers to bridge the gap between local businesses and publicly-funded skills programmes and support that help them become more inclusive employers.
- Leverage a strong grasp of York’s labour market challenges to identify and engage businesses effectively, applying business diagnostic experience to quickly understand workforce priorities and propose practical, tailored solutions.
- Plan, manage and deliver engaging presentations, talks and events for employers and intermediaries, while collaborating with colleagues across the organisation and partners throughout York & North Yorkshire to promote available support.
- Report to the Strategic Skills Manager and ensure the service meets delivery, reporting and performance requirements for the York & North Yorkshire Economic Inactivity Trailblazer Programme, as defined by DWP and the Mayoral Combined Authority.
Qualifications & Skills
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and absorb new information rapidly.
- Credibility and confidence to influence and inspire employers to adopt inclusive practices and create good work opportunities for people with health conditions who are economically inactive or at risk of becoming inactive.
- Proficient spoken English at CEFR level C1, able to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public with fluency and spontaneity.
Working Arrangements
Hybrid working arrangements are available, determined by role requirements and in collaboration with the employee during recruitment. The contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
