INTERNAL VACANCY We are looking for an experienced electrical professional to join Building Services and help lead the delivery of electrical repairs, maintenance, testing and installation work across council homes and other properties in York.
You will provide day-to-day leadership to electricians, apprentices and supporting staff, working alongside the existing management team to plan workloads, monitor performance and maintain a safe, reliable and customer-focused service.
The Role Includes
- Leading and supporting electrical operatives and apprentices
- Managing work allocation, performance, attendance and staff development
- Monitoring electrical testing, certification and compliance records
- Carrying out inspections and quality checks
- Managing contractors, projects, budgets and performance
- Supporting planned investment, repairs and installation programmes
- Working with residents, colleagues and partner services
- Supporting the Council’s NICEIC Approved Contractor and Domestic Installer responsibilities
You will have a recognised Level 3 electrical qualification, including AM2 or an equivalent recognised qualification, and substantial experience of electrical installation, testing, repairs and maintenance. You will also need strong leadership, communication and organisational skills, with the confidence to make sound operational decisions.
The role involves a combination of office and site-based working across York. A valid UK driving licence is required.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly.
