Join our team as a Canvasser
We’re looking for 6 enthusiastic Canvassers to support the Electoral Registration Officer in compiling the Register of Electors for York. This is flexible, meaningful work this autumn that lets you get out and about, meet people, and play a vital role in local democracy.

When?
Between October and November each year.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be the friendly face of electoral registration, visiting households in your assigned area to follow up with residents who haven’t responded to previous communications. You’ll make door‑to‑door enquiries, record visits, complete paperwork to keep their details up to date. You’ll work independently, with full training and support from our team.
What we’re looking for
- Ability to complete the door‑to‑door activities involved
- Comfortable working out in all weathers
- Good communication and literacy skills
- Self‑management and time‑management skills
- Commitment to the weekly hours required until the area is completed (approximately 37 hours for 650 properties)
Pay & Perks
£13.45 per hour for preparation, door‑to‑door work and compulsory training (pay award pending).
Hybrid working arrangements are available. Working arrangements will be determined based on role requirements and in collaboration with you. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
