Overview: City Centre Operative role at City of York Council based in York for an initial 3 months, with the opportunity for the role to become permanent. This is a full-time role with two shift patterns. Rate of pay is Β£13.86 per hour. Working outdoors in all weathers; PPE clothing will be provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out street cleansing within the city centre
  • Drive mechanical sweepers/washers
  • Work with a range of pedestrian controlled mechanical equipment
  • Lifting/moving heavy items
  • De-litter allocated areas (pavements, roadways and street furniture) using mechanical and manual methods

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Current full UK driving licence
  • Physically fit and willing to work outdoors
  • Comfortable dealing with members of the public
  • Happy to drive vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes

Employment details:

  • Location: York City Centre, York, England
  • Contract: initial 3 months, with potential to go permanent
  • Hours: Week 1 – Mon, Tue, Sat, Sun, 8:00–19:30; Week 2 – Wed, Thu, Fri, 9:00–19:30. Shift patterns may include unsociable hours and weekend enhancements
  • Salary: Β£13.86 per hour
