We are looking for two experienced and enthusiastic Senior Planning Policy Officers to join our City Planning Service. You will play a key role in shaping the city's long‑term growth by supporting development of the Local Plan and West Midlands Spatial Development Strategy, and by leading work on specialist planning policy areas (one post to lead on open space, biodiversity and environment; the other post to lead on consultation). The role will involve evidence gathering, policy writing, consultation, and providing expert advice to colleagues, Councillors and external parties.
Wolverhampton is a Millennium City with a thousand years of history, located on the north‑west edge of the West Midlands conurbation, with the beautiful countryside of Shropshire and Staffordshire on the doorstep and excellent transport links to Birmingham, London, Manchester and Liverpool.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, monitor and review planning policy documents
- Lead on specific planning policy topics and commissioning evidence
- Provide high quality written reports and professional advice
- Represent the Council at examinations, hearings and partnership meetings
- Support engagement with residents, developers and partners
- Contribute to strategic planning activity across the wider region
Qualifications & Requirements
You will have strong experience in planning policy, excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively on complex projects. A degree in Town Planning or a related discipline and eligibility for RTPI membership is essential. Experience of and interest in environmental topics is required for one of the posts.
