About Us: The extraordinary story of over 6000 restaurants. Environmental Health at Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where passionate and expert professionals go above and beyond for their colleagues every day. Cian believes that food brings people together. His work opens his eyes to the widest range of people and places. From restaurants to hotels, cafés to bakeries, his inspections keep the public safe, and help businesses keep their doors open. And with over 6000 restaurants to explore, if there’s one thing he knows for certain, it’s that he’ll never be bored.

The Role: As a Safe City Environmental Health Officer, you can make your own powerful contribution to people across Westminster. Joining our Food Health & Safety Team, you’ll proactively identify risks to the public, responding to community concerns quickly and effectively. This is a hands‑on, dynamic role. Day‑to‑day, you’ll carry out routine or unplanned inspections throughout the City, working to make Westminster a healthier and safer place to live, work and visit. Using your technical knowledge and customer service skills, you’ll educate individuals and businesses on the impact of their actions, providing expert advice, ensuring compliance, and helping them to meet regulatory requirements. You’ll take enforcement action where necessary, initiating legal proceedings, and preparing and giving evidence in court. A source of expertise and guidance, you’ll support the resolution of issues, and help others develop their knowledge and expertise.

About You: An established professional with experience of working in a relevant environmental health discipline, you’ll have responded to complaints from the public, stakeholders or public elected members in a previous role. A natural communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, you’ll have the ability to build trusted relationships quickly, deescalate conflict and explain consequences of non‑compliance. You might have experience of delivering a customer facing role, or of working alongside agencies and other professionals to provide excellent customer service. An understanding of rules of evidence and court proceedings is desirable, as is experience of case management. On a personal level, you’ll be organised, self‑motivated and an excellent listener. Most importantly, you’ll be passionate about improving health and safety outcomes for businesses, residents and visitors across Westminster. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an experienced, supportive team, and to supercharge your career in the process.
